Acts 2:42 Mens Fellowship
“Ascribe to the Lord, O mighty ones, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.
“The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord thunders over the mighty waters.
“The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic.
“The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars; the Lord breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon. He makes Lebanon skip like a calf, Sirion like a young wild ox.
“The voice of the Lord strikes with flashes of lightning. The voice of the Lord shakes the desert; the Lord shakes the Desert of Kadesh.
“The voice of the Lord twists the oaks and strips the forests bare. And in his temple all cry, "Glory!"
“The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; the Lord is enthroned as King forever. The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.”
Psalm 29
In the Epistle of James, it is written ‘Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.’ (James 3:5 NIV) For men can do great and powerful deeds through their voice. They have the ability to change history by a few powerful words. Some words can carry through the distance of time.
Yet the voice of a man is minuscule when it is compared to the voice of the Lord. For men have the tiniest of whispers when it is matched against the voice which speaks in all things of truth. We should never be fooled into believing that man has the ability to speak any truth beyond what has been given by God.
For as David wrote for us in Psalm 29, there is nothing more powerful on earth or in heaven then the voice of the Lord. For His Word rings forth with incorruptible truth and authority over all things. Nothing can stand against it. Nothing can tarnish its value. The voice of the Lord stands above all and shakes everything down to the core of its very existence. For every truth finds its place within the voice of the Lord.
Therefore may we always seek out the voice of the Lord in all things to see where the truth may lie. May we live our lives just like the Bereans written about so long ago:
“These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.” Acts 17:11 NIV
The Bereans searched the Word daily to see if they were really hearing the voice of the Lord. This is a great example upon how we should seek out His voice. Our lives should include a daily reading plan of the Word so we can match up what we witness about God’s glory to the truth of His glory.
My brothers, the voice of the Lord is speaking to each one of us. May we continue to seek Him out by challenging ourselves to match up what we hear with the Word. May we find ourselves daily seeking out the voice of the Lord in order to see His glory. May we stand united in this effort so that we may encourage one another to stay strong in the faith…
